MANGALURU: A youth was lynched by a mob in Mangaluru, Karnataka, on the charge of raising pro-Pakistan slogans during a cricket match. The incident took place near the Kudupu Bhatra Kallurti temple at around 3 pm on Sunday. The deceased has not been identified yet. Police have arrested 15 people in the incident. Police have registered a case of mob lynching against 19 people and have started an investigation. The arrested have been identified as Sachin T (26), Devdas (50), Manjunath (32), Saideep (29), Nitesh Kumar alias Santosh (33), Dheekshith Kumar (32), Sandeep (23), Vivian Alvares (41), Sridatta (32), Rahul (23), Pradeep Kumar (35), Manish Shetty (21), Dhanush (31), Dheekshith (27) and Kishore Kumar (37).

The youth was lynched by a mob on the grounds that he had shouted 'Pakistan Zindabad' slogans during a local cricket tournament. The police said that Sachin, a native of Kudupu, led the attack. After the murder, the assailants left the body on the ground and escaped. The post-mortem report said that the cause of death was deep wounds on the head and body. The police said that the deceased was between 35 and 40 years old. The post-mortem conducted at the Wenlock District Hospital confirmed that he died due to internal bleeding due to repeated injuries. The body of the youth has been shifted to the morgue.

The police said that the case was registered following a complaint by 33-year-old local resident Deepak Kumar. The police are actively collecting evidence and all those involved will face the maximum punishment of the law, the commissioner added. He said that the police are also examining CCTV footage from the area to identify more people involved in the incident.

Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara also confirmed that the youth was killed in a mob attack. The minister said that a detailed report on the incident has not been received and further investigation is underway.
