MANGALURU: One more person has been arrested by the police in the mob lynching case of a Malayali youth facing mental health challenges in Kudupu. With this, the total number of arrests has risen to 21. K. Anil, who had been absconding after the incident, was caught in Gokak. Commissioner Anupam Agarwal stated that efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining suspects.
Notices have been issued to around 15 individuals who were present at the scene, asking them to appear for questioning. Several people are currently being interrogated. CCTV footage and other evidence are being examined, said Agarwal.
The incident occurred last Tuesday, when Ashraf from Pulppally in Wayanad was killed in a mob attack in Kudupu, Mangaluru. The postmortem report states that the cause of death was deep injuries to the head and body. The exact motive behind the incident remains unclear. The commissioner also clarified that there is no evidence supporting claims that the deceased shouted pro-Pakistan slogans.
