stray-dog-attack

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The seven-year-old girl confirmed with rabies, currently undergoing treatment at the SAT Hospital, has been put on a ventilator after her condition worsened. The hospital authorities also expressed concern about the child’s health.

The Kunnicode native girl was bitten by a dog on the afternoon of April 8. The girl was seated on the porch of her house when a mangy dog, chasing a duck, changed direction to come the girl’s way. The dog then bit the girl and ran away. She was rushed to the hospital and administered anti-rabies serum and an IDRV dose immediately.

The relatives thought that the prompt vaccination would put up a bulwark against rabies. The family thus didn’t care to learn the current state of the dog that attacked her. Three days after the incident, the dog reportedly died. On April 28, the child developed a fever.

A similar incident had taken place in Pathanamthitta earlier. Thirteen-year-old Bhagyalakshmi died of rabies on April 9. The child was bitten by a dog on December 13.
