THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The body of Niya, a seven-year-old girl from Kollam's Vilakkodi, who died of rabies, has been brought to Alenchery Muslim Jamaat mosque. She will be laid to rest here. Her body was not taken home and there will no public homage.

Meantime, the girl’s mother Habeera told media that garbage is dumped near the house regularly and that there is a menace of stray dogs here. While talking to the media at the Thiruvananthapuram SAT Hospital, she said that despite complaining several times, no action was taken from the authorities and that everyone together killed the girl. Niya's mother has been asked to be in quarantine. The girl Niya Faisal died this morning.


With Niya's death, the number of children who have died of rabies in the state in a month has reached three. Her body was not responding properly to medications. Although complex treatment was given to reduce the severity of the virus in the brain, she died Monday morning at 2 am.


Her treatment was coordinated by various departments such as neurology and cardiology under the leadership of pediatrics medicine. Meantime, the medicines required for the child's treatment were provided free of charge from SAT's in-house drug bank.
