The Transport Department and Minister KB Ganeshkumar deserve praise for providing insurance cover of one crore rupees to KSRTC employees without them being burdened with premiums. No one can predict when an accident will happen on the road. Those working in the Transport Department are naturally more prone to accidents. Especially those working in long-distance services. The new decision will help create a feeling among the employees that even if they die in an accident, their families will not be orphaned. It would be great if this could also increase the confidence of the employees and their sincerity towards the Department.

The insurance scheme is being implemented in collaboration with SBI. For this reason, companies will not be able to deny insurance on the grounds of not paying the premium on time. On the other hand, if it was the transport department that had decided to pay the premium directly, it would have been impossible to do it on time due to financial difficulties. As it is a bank that is not affected by financial difficulties that have taken this up, everyone will be convinced that this is a project that is sure to function properly. The minister said in a press conference that the protection is being provided by SBI in return for transferring the accounts of employees and the institution's money transactions to the bank and taking an overdraft of Rs 80 crore per month. The minister added that this is a gift for employees on the fourth anniversary of the government.

22,095 permanent employees will get the benefit as part of this insurance scheme, where employees do not have to pay for the premium. Even if the employees suffer a disability in an accident, they will get Rs 1 crore. Rs 80 lakh will be allocated for partial disability. Dependents of those earning a salary of Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 will get Rs 6 lakh even if they die naturally. Rs 10 lakh will be provided for burn treatment and plastic surgery, Rs 5 lakh for bringing medicine from abroad, Rs 5 lakh within 48 hours for treatment in the coma stage, Rs 10 lakh for air ambulance service and Rs 10 lakh for the marriage of women.

There is no doubt that giving money in such cases will be a great act of charity rather than insurance coverage. No one can predict when life will face a crisis. Therefore, such a step taken by the Transport Department can be a model for other departments. Even if it's not that much money, it would be appropriate for the department to consider in the future whether it could provide something for temporary workers as well.
