NEW DELHI: The central government has issued a directive to OTT platforms to remove content originating from Pakistan. The order emphasises that streaming content that affects India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity must be avoided. The platforms are also instructed not to display any content that poses a threat to India’s national security.
Content that promotes violence or disturbs public order is also prohibited from being shown. This applies to all types of content- films, web series, songs and podcasts- whether accessible for free or through paid subscriptions, if they are sourced from Pakistan. OTT companies have been asked to immediately stop streaming such content.
The advisory highlights that Pakistan has been producing various content that appears to promote terrorism. Specific reference is made to the Pahalgam incident, where Pakistan allegedly provided supportive narratives. The directive states that such measures are necessary to safeguard India's sovereignty and integrity.
Meanwhile, there are indications from the Centre about a possible second phase of Operation Sindoor. It is reported that only 9 out of the 21 terrorist camps, listed by India, have been targeted so far. The Indian stance suggests that even Pakistani military installations may not be spared if required.
