KOZHIKODE: The SSLC results of the suspects in the murder of tenth class student Mohammed Shahabas in Thamarassery have been published. The results were published as per the directions of the high court. The court had criticized the government for not publishing the exam results of them. The court had said that if the results are not published, it will be considered negligence. The accused in the case will get an opportunity to continue studies.
The court asked yesterday what authority they had to withhold the results after allowing them to write the exam. Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas criticized the government while considering the bail pleas of the six accused. The court clarified that there is no connection between the crime and the exam and also asked whether there is a direction from the child rights commission to publish the results. The criminal law system aims at transformation. Can a child be barred from writing the exam on the grounds that he has committed a crime? Officials will be held responsible in this regard.
Since it is a bail plea, it cannot interfere in the matter of the exam results. The single bench had also clarified that the parties can approach the relevant courts for this.
There were also strong protests against the accused being allowed to write the exam. Shahabas was a student of Vattoli M J Higher Secondary School. Shahabas was beaten by a group of students from Thamarassery School on the evening of February 27 following a dispute at the tuition center. The boy was first taken to Thamarassery Taluk Hospital and later to the Medical College after vomiting and other health problems in the night, but he died. The students arraigned have been charged with murder.
The police had found that there was a proper plan behind the student's murder. The police found that after the clash at the tuition center, the accused students had formed groups on social media and planned revenge actions. Shahabas was injured in the attack with a nunchaku used in karate. The police had also examined whether he had got help from adults to get the nunchaku.
