THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that there is a possibility of extremely heavy rainfall in various districts of the state for the next five days. Red alert has been issued in various districts in the coming days. There is a red alert in Kannur and Kasaragod tomorrow. On Sunday, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod have been issued a red alert and on Monday, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod have been sounded a red alert. The IMD has predicted that there is a possibility of extremely heavy rainfall in these districts.


Extremely heavy rainfall means that more than 204.4 mm of rainfall will be received in 24 hours. An orange alert has been issued for Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod tomorrow. An orange alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad on Sunday and for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad on Monday.


Meantime, as part of the black sea phenomenon, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has informed that there is a possibility of sea erosion due to high waves of 0.5 to 1.0 meters along the Kerala coast and 1.0 to 1.1 meters along the Kanyakumari coast till 08.30 tonight. The IMD has informed that fishing should not be allowed along the Kerala-Karnataka- Lakshadweep coasts till Monday. Strong winds and bad weather are likely along the Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts with gusts reaching 35 to 45 kmph and at times up to 55 kmph.
