THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed that there is a possibility of rain in Kerala for the next five days. Red and orange alerts have been issued in various districts. Red alerts have been issued in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod today.
Red alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod tomorrow. The possibility of extremely heavy rain has been predicted. The IMD defines extremely heavy rain as more than 204.4 mm of rain in 24 hours.

Extremely heavy rainfall can cause accidents. Heavy rain is expected in a short period of time. It may cause flash floods and lightning floods. There is also a possibility of waterlogging in urban areas and low-lying areas in general. The situation of continued rain may cause mudslides and landslides.
