NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a CRPF personnel on charges of leaking classified strategic information to Pakistani intelligence officers. The arrested person has been identified as Moti Ram Jat. He was arrested in Delhi and has been sent to NIA custody by a Patiala court until June 6. Interrogation of the accused is currently underway.
According to NIA officials, Jat had been actively involved in espionage activities and had been sharing classified information related to national security with a Pakistani intelligence officer since 2023. The agency also revealed that he had received money from Pakistani handlers through multiple channels.
Following the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, security agencies have intensified their counter-espionage operations. Over the past two weeks, 12 individuals have been arrested in connection with espionage cases from Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. Investigative sources indicate the existence of a well-organized espionage network operating across North India with links to Pakistan. Among those arrested are two women.
