KANNUR: With heavy rainfall persisting in most parts of the district, the Kannur collector declared a holiday for all educational institutions in the district on Tuesday. Tuition centres, Anganwadis and madrassas should remain closed. The holiday does not apply to Anganwadi staff.

Two were injured after a tree fell over a house in Perinthatta Kannur due to heavy rains. Perinthatta native Suresh Kumar and his mother Nirmala were injured in the incident. The rains also wreaked big damage to crops in the district.

Meanwhile, strong rains continue unabated in Kerala mostly in the Kottayam district.
