THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are likely to continue in the state for two more days. Another low-pressure area is likely to form over the central and western Bay of Bengal on Tuesday. The rains will ease off a bit tomorrow. They will intensify again and continue till the 31st. Strong winds are also likely in the coming days.

The rain fury claimed five lives in Kerala on Monday alone. Nithya Joshi (18) died after an iron shed of a roadside eatery fell on her at Alappuzha beach. The teen took shelter in the shop to avoid rain and wind but luck turned against her.

Renuka (41) died after being struck by lightning from the iron grills of her house in Vadakkancherry, Thrissur.

Omanakuttan (54), a driver at the Nedumudi Boat Station of the Water Transport Department, died after falling in a stream in Kuttanad.

The body of Jobin Joseph (38), a resident of Kuttiyara, Perumballur, who went missing after being swept away by a river in Pazhoor, Piravom, was found on Sunday. In Palakuzha, Koothattukulam, Vellani (80), a resident of Kizhakkekara, died after being electrocuted while trying to remove a broken power line in front of his house.
