trawling-

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A ban on trawling will be imposed in Kerala from midnight of June 9. The 52-day ban will end on midnight of July 31. This will be announced at a review meeting chaired by Minister Saji Cherian on Wednesday. Fishermen's representatives, officials and collectors will attend the meeting.

During the trawling ban, mechanized boats will not be allowed to go to sea or fish. Strict action will be taken against vessels violating the ban.

During the ban, only one carrier barge will be allowed with inboard boats. All mechanized boats should enter the harbors by June 8.

To provide diesel to inboard boats, selected diesel bunks of Matsyafed will operate in their respective districts subject to conditions.

Neendakara Harbor in Kollam district was open to traditional fishing vessels other than inboard boats during the ban. That is likely to continue this year as well.

Control Rooms

• Fisheries Control Rooms will be started in all coastal districts that will operate 24 hours a day

• Marine Enforcement, Coastal Police, Navy and Coast Guard will be deployed for surveillance

Ration should not be interrupted

The fishermen's lives have been affected by the fact that they were unable to go to sea for many days due to the early arrival of the monsoon. Therefore, the fishermen demand that ration should be provided without interruption, including during the trawling ban.
