THRISSUR: In a tragic incident, a student drowned in a river near Cherumkuzhi on Tuesday. Sarun, the eldest son of Suresh, a native of Cherumkuzhi, died in the incident. Sarun’s brother Arun, who was also caught in the currents was rescued by locals. The incident took place around Tuesday noon.

It is reported that the brothers went to the river for fishing. The water level in the river was on the rise and the duo slipped amidst strong rains. The locals saw both of them drowning and immediately carried out rescue operations. Both of them were rushed to Jubilee Mission Hospital, but Sarun’s life could not be saved.

Arun's health condition is satisfactory. Suresh is a rubber-tapper. Sarun's body will be handed over to his relatives after the postmortem.
