Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar returned to winning ways with his latest film Good Bad Ugly. After its theatrical run, the film started streaming on Netflix. Amidst this, there are growing tensions within Kollywood after director Kasthuri Raja decided to move legally against the film.
Kasthuri Raja, who is also the father of actor Dhanush, is planning to file a case against the producers of Ajith's film, alleging that they used classic songs from his film in violation of copyright.
Recently, Kasthuri Raja criticized the new trend seen among some young directors. This included using nostalgic tracks from yesteryear movies and including them in the new films without giving due credit or remuneration to the original music directors.
“There's nothing wrong with using classic tracks of Ilayaraja or Deva. But they should ask permission first. Unfortunately, no one shows that courtesy these days” Kasthuri Raja pointed out.
Music director Ilayaraja had also sent a notice for copyright infringement against Mythri Movie Makers, the producers of Good Bad Ugly. The notice was sent demanding Rs 5 crore in compensation for using classic songs like Ilamai Itho Itho, En Jod Manja Kuruvi, and Otha Rupa without permission.
Meanwhile, the producers reiterated that all due procedures were completed before using the tracks in the movie.
