THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a flood warning as rivers are likely to overflow due to the heavy rains in the state. Orange alerts have been issued for various rivers in view of the possibility of flooding. As per the instructions of the authorities, people are advised to stay away from flood-prone areas. Under no circumstances should they enter or cross the rivers. Those living near the banks are also advised to be vigilant.

Orange alert is in place for Manimala River in Pathanamthitta and yellow alert in Meenachil in Kottayam, Korapuzha in Kozhikode, Achankovil in Pathanamthitta and Kabani in Wayanad. People on the banks of these rivers have been advised to be vigilant.


Following the dangerous rise in water levels, the state irrigation department has issued an orange alert at Thondara (Vallamkulam) station on the Manimala River in Pathanamthitta, a yellow alert at the Perur station on the Meenachil River in Kottayam, Kunnamangalam and Kollikkal stations on the Korappuzha River in Kozhikode, Kalleli and Konni GD stations on the Achankovil River in Pathanamthitta and Kakkavayal station on the Kabani River in Wayanad.
