THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has urged the public to remain vigilant as COVID-19 cases continue to be reported in the state. Addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister clarified that there is no need for panic and that all necessary precautions have been taken. Currently, there are 727 active cases in the state. He assured that the health department is conducting adequate testing and has ensured the availability of necessary medicines across districts.

The Chief Minister confirmed that the Omicron J variant, which has been identified in foreign countries, has also been detected in Kerala. Most of the reported cases are from the districts of Kottayam, Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, and Ernakulam.

"Under the leadership of Health Minister Veena George, the overall public health situation in the state has been reviewed. People showing symptoms such as cold, sore throat, or cough are advised to wear masks in public spaces. Special caution is advised for pregnant women, the elderly, and those with pre-existing health conditions. Healthcare workers must wear masks without fail," the Chief Minister said.

In addition, CM Pinarayi Vijayan called for increased vigilance against other monsoon-related diseases, including leptospirosis.
