KOCHI: The Kochi Water Metro was involved in an accident due to strong currents. The accident occurred when the metro boat collided with a stationary Ro-Ro ferry at Vypin. According to the preliminary report, the accident happened due to loss of control, though this has not been fully confirmed. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. Passengers were evacuated from the metro boat with the help of another vessel.
The metro involved in the accident was operating a service from the High Court terminal to the Vypin side. The boat hit the Ro-Ro ferry's handrail with considerable force, causing damage to both the boat and the handrail. Due to the persistent strong current, services on the High Court route were disrupted for about two hours. Operations resumed later, after 2 PM. KMRL has announced that an internal investigation into the incident has been initiated.
