death

ALAPPUZHA: A remand prisoner at the district jail died while undergoing treatment at Alappuzha Medical College Hospital. The deceased is Jason Francis (45) from Kormangalam, Alakkode, Idukki, who had been arrested for assaulting a UKG student. He passed away around 9:40 AM yesterday. He had been admitted to the hospital on the 28th, and hospital authorities stated that he had suffered a brain haemorrhage. The body is currently kept at the Medical College mortuary.

Jason was arrested by the Cherthala Police on the 25th in connection with the assault of the student. The action followed a complaint filed by the PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) of Cherthala Government Town LP School. The teachers grew concerned when the child arrived at school in a dishevelled state and appeared weak. Upon inquiring with neighbours, they learned that the child was often heard crying at night, prompting them to file the complaint.

Jason had been living with the child's mother for the past three years. He was a daily wage labourer and, according to the police, had assaulted the child while under the influence of alcohol. The child’s mother is a lottery ticket seller. The police registered a case under various sections, including those related to abuse by a guardian.
