KOCHI: The body of Abdul Ibrahim Salih (22), the Tanzanian trainee cadet at the Ezhimala Naval Academy who went missing in the lake, has been recovered. The body was found between the Venduruthy lake and the naval base at around 7.15 am yesterday.

An inquest was conducted at the Navy's Sanjeevani Hospital and a postmortem was conducted at the Ernakulam General Hospital. The body was handed over to the Navy. The Navy said that it has started the process of repatriating the body of the deceased in collaboration with the Tanzanian Embassy in India.

Abdul Ibrahim Salih, who jumped into the Kochi backwater for a swim on Sunday evening, went missing. For the next two days, Navy helicopters, boats and diving experts continued the search.

Abdul Ibrahim Salih jumped into the lake with his Malayali classmate at the Venduruthy bridge near the naval base when he reached Kochi via Nedumbassery airport to return home. The Navy had clarified that this was not part of the training. The accident occurred due to strong currents. The Navy said that Abdul Ibrahim Salih was an international trainee at the Naval Academy and that Navy condoled the death of the cadet.
