BENGALURU: The number of people who died in the stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during the celebrations following Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL title win has risen to 11. Authorities have confirmed that a woman and a child were among the people killed in the stampede. Over 50 people have reportedly sustained injuries, with unofficial sources indicating that the number could rise further.

A reception was organised at the stadium to honour the IPL champions, and thousands of fans had gathered to participate in the event and catch a glimpse of their favourite stars. While the Chinnaswamy Stadium has a seating capacity of only 30,000, estimates suggest that nearly 300,000 people had gathered on the surrounding roads and areas, leading to the tragic stampede.

RCB had claimed their maiden IPL title just a day earlier by defeating Punjab Kings in the final held in Ahmedabad, bringing an end to an 18-year-long wait.

However, the fact that such a major tragedy occurred in Bengaluru — claiming the lives of 11 devoted fans and leaving many critically injured — has sparked widespread criticism, as RCB players continued with the celebrations at the stadium. Star players, including Virat Kohli, addressed the fans during the event. Even after the tragedy unfolded, RCB's official social media platforms continued to share videos of the ongoing celebrations, drawing further criticism.
