BENGALURU: A 17-year-old boy from Kerala has been confirmed among the 11 victims who lost their lives in a tragic stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL title celebration on Wednesday evening. The deceased has been identified as Sivaling, a native of Kannur, and his body is currently kept at Mauri Hospital, according to reports.
The Karnataka government revealed that the incident claimed the lives of 11 people, including a woman and a child, while 47 others sustained injuries. Officials stated that all the injured individuals are now in stable condition and out of danger. The other victims have been identified as Divyamshi (13), Shravan (21), Bhoomik, Sahana, Devi, Shivu (17), and Manoj. Bodies of three unidentified victims remain at Vaidehi and Bowring hospitals.
In response to the tragedy, the state government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the stampede and announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of each of the deceased. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also confirmed that the state will bear the full cost of treatment for those injured.
Authorities noted that the stampede occurred as an overwhelming crowd of nearly 3 lakh people gathered outside the stadium, which has a seating capacity of just 35,000. The Chief Minister acknowledged that the massive turnout had not been anticipated and clarified that no formal permission had been granted for the RCB victory parade.
