MALAPPURAM: The police have registered a case in connection with the death of a student electrocuted by an electric wire installed to trap a wild boar. The incident happened at Vellakkatta, Vazhikadavu near Nilambur in Malappuram. The dead is Ananthu alias Jithu, aged 15, a class ten student. The Malappuram Vazhikadavu police have registered a case of culpable homicide. No one has been named as accused in the FIR. It is hinted that the police have received information about the person who set the trap. Two people have been taken into custody. Ananthu's postmortem will be held today.
The accident happened when five students, who are relatives, were fishing after playing football. Shanu and Yadhu Krishnan, who were with Jithu, sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment. Their condition is said to be satisfactory. Yadhu Krishnan, who is undergoing treatment, said that there was a wire across the stream. Yadhu said that he was electrocuted while trying to save Ananthu.
Meantime, Forest Minister A K Saseendran said the children were electrocuted by an illegally installed electric fencing and that there was a deliberate attempt to blame the forest department for the accident. He clarified that the government or the forest department has no role in the accident.
The minister termed the incident as unfortunate. Some are trying to politicize the incident. They are politicizing it with elections in mind. He clarified that action will be taken after investigating the incident and if there are lapses from the side of the forest department, action will be taken.
