NEW DELHI: The vacation bench of the Supreme Court has rejected the bail plea of actress Leena Maria Paul in the financial fraud case. Leena mentioned in her bail plea that she is suffering from tuberculosis and so requested to grant bail. The court clarified that they will not interfere in the bail plea as the high court is hearing the case and that will consider it, if necessary, after the order is issued. The court did not enter into detailed arguments.
Leena Maria Paul was arrested by the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Police in 2021 in connection with a financial fraud involving Chennai native Sukesh Chandrasekhar. The arrest was in a case involving a fraud of Rs 200 crore. Sukesh introduced that Leena was his secretary. Leena and Sukesh were arrested in May 2013 in connection with cases of embezzling Rs 19 crore from Canara Bank's Ambattur branch in Chennai and embezzling Rs 62.47 lakh from a garment merchant.
There was a case where they had taken Rs 50 crore from Sasikala's gang on the pretext of helping them retain the two-leaf symbol of the AIADMK. There was also a case where Ravi Pujari's underworld gang opened fire at the beauty parlor Leena opened in Kadavanthra after Sukesh was sent to Tihar.
