CHALAKUDY: The inspection report says that the meat seized from the house of a Perambra native was not deer, but cow meat. With this, Mechira-Chalakudy native Sujesh alias Kannan, who was jailed in the case, is preparing to approach the High Court demanding legal action against the offenders.
The incident took place on September 30, 2024. The Chalakudy DySP's Dansaf team seized the meat from the house of Joby, a native of Perambra, thinking it was deer meat. The seized meat was handed over to the forest guards and six people were arrested by the Mupliyam Forest Station authorities. The results of the examination of the seized meat at the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Technology in Thiruvananthapuram were released three days ago. The test revealed that it was cow meat. They spent 39 days in jail in the case.
Sujesh said that before becoming a porter at Chalakudy South Junction, he worked as a butcher and if he got good quality meat, he would deliver it to many people. Joby was given the meat of the cow Sujesh had obtained in this way. Joby, who was on a picnic, had kept the meat in the fridge after mixing turmeric and salt, and the officials mistook it for deer meat and seized it. Sujesh alleged that the forest guards brutally assaulted him to make him sign several papers and that he lost his job after being involved in the case.
