THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department has announced that there is a possibility of rain in Kerala for the next five days. Red and orange alerts have been issued in various districts. Today, a red alert has been issued in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. The possibility of extremely heavy rainfall has been predicted. The Meteorological Department defines extremely heavy rainfall as rainfall exceeding 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

Orange Alert

16/06/2025: Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad

17/06/2025: Kannur, Kasaragod

IMD has declared an orange alert in the above districts. The possibility of very heavy rainfall has been predicted in isolated places. By 'Very Heavy Rainfall', IMD means that there will be rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

Yellow Alert

16/06/2025: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam

17/06/2025: Alappuzha, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad

18/06/2025: Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod

The Central Meteorological Department has declared a yellow alert in the mentioned districts. The possibility of isolated heavy rain is predicted. Heavy rain is defined as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is received in 24 hours.

Extremely intense rain can cause accidents. A tendency to receive heavy rain in a short time is expected. It may cause flash floods and currents. There is also a possibility of waterlogging in urban areas and generally low-lying areas. Continued rainfall may cause landslides and rockfalls. The public and government agencies should be extremely vigilant.
