aadhaar

NEW DELHI: A new system is being prepared that will allow citizens to update and correct their Aadhaar details from the comfort of their homes. Details such as name, gender, address, phone number, date of birth, and email can be updated online. However, those applying for Aadhaar for the first time will still need to visit Aadhaar enrollment centers for biometric submissions, including fingerprint and retina scans.

The CEO of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Bhuvnesh Kumar, announced this update. A QR code-based app is being developed to simplify the data update process, with a targeted launch by November. Once implemented, the need to submit photocopies for various services will be eliminated.

With the QR code-based app in place, only the required information can be shared—for instances such as hotel check-ins, train travel, or property registration—and only with the citizen’s explicit consent.

Preventing data misuse
This system aims to eliminate the possibility of Aadhaar data leaks or unauthorized access. It will help prevent fraudulent activities such as identity impersonation and fake property ownership, especially in land registrations. UIDAI is developing the system to integrate with such processes via QR code verification. The central government has also urged states to make Aadhaar verification mandatory for land registrations, though detailed guidelines are yet to be released.

18 crore Aadhaar updates pending
There is a need to update Aadhaar details for approximately 18 crore children. To address this, UIDAI plans to conduct a campaign in collaboration with CBSE and other agencies.
