ULLOOR: A junior doctor on duty in the capital city's Medical College Hospital was badly beaten up by a patient’s bystander. The Medical College Police arrested Reynolds Mathew (59), a native of Kollam Perinad, in the incident.
The third-year General Medicine PG student, on duty in the ward, was roughed up in the incident. The incident happened in the fourth ward on Monday night.
The accused's wife is undergoing treatment in the hospital. The woman doctor questioned the bystander for creating a ruckus inside the ward, which irked him and led to the attack. The accused forcibly took away the face mask worn by the doctor and slapped her hard on the face. She suffered serious bruises on her face.
The Medical College police rushed to the spot and arrested Reynolds. The police registered a case under the Kerala Healthcare Service Persons and Healthcare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act. The accused was produced in court and remanded.
