THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Freemasons of Thiruvananthapuram marked the Universal Brotherhood Day 2025 with a vibrant and purposeful Masonic Walkathon, held under the banner “Walk Away From Drugs.” The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from Brethren, families, and well-wishers, all unified in their resolve to promote awareness against substance abuse and to uphold the core Masonic values of brotherhood, health, and civic responsibility.
Flagged off at 6:30 A.M. from the historic Freemasons’ Hall, Vazhuthacaud, the walkathon traced a scenic and symbolic 3-kilometre route via Vellayambalam and Manaveeyam Road before culminating at the starting point. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Col. Pramod M, Director, NCC (Kerala & Lakshadweep), who formally launched the event with an address that highlighted the significance of youth leadership and community-based deterrence of drug abuse.
The presence of R. W. Bro. R Sushil Raj, Past Regional Grand Master of the Regional Grand Lodge of Southern India (RGLSI), lent grace and encouragement to the gathering. The event was ably convened by W. Bro. N S Thankaprasad, with meticulous arrangements ensuring smooth conduct, safety, and hospitality for over 150 participants.
W. Bro. M R Ranjit Karthikeyan, Assistant Regional Grand Master, expressed his heartfelt pride and satisfaction at the spirit of unity and civic consciousness displayed by the Brethren. “This walk was more than symbolic — it was a step forward in making our presence felt in the social fabric of our city, reinforcing that Freemasonry walks with purpose,” he noted.
A finishing photo wall, refreshments for all, and coordinated volunteer support rounded off a meaningful morning of fellowship and public awareness.
