PONNANI: Senior Congress leader V Syed Mohammed Thangal (71) passed away. He passed away at his residence in Ponnani. Thangal was a member of the KPCC executive committee, former district president of the Youth Congress, vice president of the District Congress Committee for 18 years, member of the Karipur Airport Advisory Committee, member of the State Agricultural Development Board, Ponnani Municipal Councilor, and district president when K Karunakaran formed the DIC. Later, he became the district president of the NCP.

Wife: Saibunnisa.
Daughter: Nishana. Son-in-law: Syed Afsar (Kuwait).
Siblings: Syed Zainul Abid Thangal, Jafar Ali Thangal (Abu Dhabi), Amin Thangal, Sharifa Beevi, Ummukulsu Beevi, Hairunnisa Beevi (Kozhikode).

The funeral prayers was held at the Valiya Juma Masjid in Ponnani.
