KOCHI: The High Court asked the government for the reasons behind the abrupt halt of the investigation into the phone tapping case involving former MLA PV Anvar. The court also asked whether Anvar was operating as a parallel administration while assuming office as a public representative. Justice PV Kunhikrishnan clarified the court's position not to allow anyone to engage in such activities. The criticism came during the disposal of the petition filed by Kollam-native businessman Murukesh Narendran seeking a CBI investigation into the phone tapping case.

On September 1 2024, the then MLA PV Anvar admitted to tapping phone calls of senior police officers in a presser held at Malappuram. Murukesh approached the court, stating no action despite filing a complaint with the Malappuram SP and DGP seeking an investigation into the matter. He pointed out in the petition that no action was taken even after a petition was filed with the Chief Secretary.

The government informed the court that there were no facts to open an investigation into the incident. However, the court didn’t buy the claims of the government and asked the officials to find evidence in the case, as the MLA himself had admitted to the crime. The court said that the revelation that the phones of IPS officers were tapped was serious. The petition was adjourned.
