PALAKKAD: The Education Department's report has made serious findings against the school in the incident of ninth-grade student Ashirnanda committing suicide in Nattukal. The report is against Sreekrishnapuram St. Dominic's English Medium School, where Ashirnanda studied. The report points out that the class change based on marks was illegal. The findings were made during an investigation conducted by the Palakkad DDE.
The student committed suicide on the same day her class was changed. The report says that the investigation by the Education Department revealed that the school authorities forcibly obtained a letter from the parents agreeing to the student's downgrading if her marks dropped. The DDE's investigation report was handed over to the District Collector and the Director of the General Education Department.
Ashirnanda committed suicide on Monday. Relatives had alleged that the reason for the child's suicide was mental harassment at school. The child's parents said that Ashirnanda was transferred to a different class when her marks fell and that she was mentally disturbed. As the protest over the student's death intensified, the accused school principal OP Joyce and teachers Stella Babu and AT Thankam were dismissed. In addition to them, the management was also ready to dismiss teachers Ambili and Archana. The Child Rights Commission has registered a case in Ashirnanda's death. The District Child Protection Committee has also sought a detailed report from the school authorities.
