PALAKKAD: Police intensified investigation into the death of Ashirnanda, the ninth standard student who committed suicide over alleged mental torture from school teachers. She was a student of St. Dominic's School in Sreekrishnapuram in Palakkad. Officials will visit the school tomorrow and hear the statements of all the students in the class. The accused teachers will be summoned to the station and their statements recorded. The investigation team is likely to request the court to examine the handwriting on the suicide note handed over by classmates claiming to be Ashirnanda's.
The DDE report submitted to the Director of Public Education found serious shortcomings at the school. The report mentioned the unlawful move from school to segregate low-scoring students into a separate class. It was on the same day of the class shift that Ashirnanda committed suicide. The Palakkad District Education Officer has forwarded the report to the Education Department.
The school authorities had forcibly obtained a letter from the parents agreeing to downgrade students if they perform poorly in exams. The education officer prepared the report based on information received from Ashirnanda's parents, classmates and teachers at the school. Meanwhile, the first meeting of the newly formed PTA committee at the school will be held today.
Last Wednesday, 14-year-old Ashirnanda was found hanging in the upstairs of her house. Relatives alleged mental torture by the faculty and admitted to the distress faced by Ashirnanda after she was shifted to another class over her 'poor' grades.
In the meanwhile, a suicide note, purported to be of Ashirnanda’s, was found on the back page of her friend’s notebook. In the note, the names of teachers Ambili and Archana were mentioned. Another teacher named Stella Babu was also mentioned in the note.
