THRISSUR: Police confirmed that the couple, now in custody over the purported burial of newborns, have murdered their second baby. Bhavi (26) and Anisha (21), natives of Vellikulangara, were taken into custody by the police. Anisha confessed to police about suffocating her second newborn to death. Police said that Bhavi was aware of the plan.

Anisha said that the first child died after the umbilical cord got tangled around the neck. Anisha buried the newborn by herself. The second child was handed over to Bhavi to bury. Anisha’s mother expressed shock learning that her daughter was pregnant twice and admitted to not knowing anything. Anisha’s mother, however, admitted to knowing about her daughter’s live-in relationship with Bhavi for the last four years.

Anisha is a lab technician. Anisha and Bhavi met on Facebook in 2020. In 2021, Anisha became pregnant and gave birth without the knowledge of her family. Anisha said that her first pregnancy ended in stillbirth after the umbilical cord wrapped around the baby's neck. The baby was then buried near her house. The bones were kept to conduct final rites and ward off evil spirits.

Soon after, Anisha got pregnant again. She gave birth without the knowledge of her family. The woman told the police that she had suffocated the baby when it cried. The body was then handed over to Bhavi. After the incident, tensions started appearing between the couple, and things were not going good for various reasons. Bhavin came to the police station with the bones, suspecting that Anisha would marry another man. The couple had a bitter verbal fight yesterday. The young man came to the station drunk around midnight on Saturday. He had confessed to the police about burying two babies in two places.
