THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet has approved the recommendations made by the expert committee regarding mark normalisation. The decision was based on the suggestion of the Entrance Commissioner. With this, the KEAM results will now be announced soon. The delay in result publication was due to the government's indecision on finalising the recommendations earlier.
This decision brings much-needed relief to students from the Kerala syllabus, who have faced major challenges in recent years. Under the previous normalisation system, when scores from subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics were combined with KEAM scores, many students saw a considerable reduction in their marks. Even students who scored well in Plus Two were reportedly losing 20 to 40 marks after normalisation. This led to widespread complaints.
Following these concerns, an expert committee was appointed. The new normalisation formula is based on the committee's report to the government. Under this revised system, normalisation will include the full marks obtained, regardless of the syllabus followed. This means that no marks will be deducted during the process. The change is expected to bring major relief, especially to students who studied under the Kerala syllabus.
