KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has raised questions over the controversies related to Suresh Gopi's film JSK: Janaki vs State of Kerala. The court asked who is hurt by the name Janaki on religious or communal grounds. The censor board should say what is wrong with the name Janaki. The high court also asked whether the censor board is ordering to the name the film. The high court was considering the case after the censor board and the revising committee denied permission to JSK.

The high court had earlier considered the pleas filed by the producers of the film 'Janaki vs State of Kerala'. The high court had raised severe criticisms when considering the case earlier. Why should somebody change the name of a character? Janaki is a common name used everywhere. What religious purpose? We have movies with names Sita and Gita. Janaki is Sita. Nothing happened then. Nobody had any complaints. We have a film named Ram Lakhan. Nobody has any complaint. How come there are some complaints for Janaki now?”

The censor board explained in the court that the title of the film is against the guidelines and affects religion. The board also directed the producers to change the name Janaki. The film contains content suitable only for adults. The censor board had also informed the court that children under the age of 16 are prohibited from watching the film.
