KALLAMBALAM: A KSRTC superfast bus hit a scooter carrying a middle-aged couple near the Veiloor junction on the national highway near Kallambalam. The deceased were identified as Shyam Sasidharan (58) and his wife Sheena (51), natives of Paravur. The accident took place at around 6 pm on Monday.

The bus from Mala depot, which was going from Thiruvananthapuram to Aluva, hit a scooty coming from the opposite direction. The couple was on their way to visit their daughter, who was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Attingal. The couple, who fell on the road, were rushed to Chathanpara KTCT Hospital by bus passengers and locals, but the husband died. The seriously injured wife was taken to Thiruvananthapuram KIMS Hospital for specialist treatment, but she died soon after. The bus driver, Santosh Kumar, surrendered at the police station. The deceased couple's children are Liya and Lobha. Their son-in-law is Achu.
