THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The existing mark equalization method for preparing the Engineering Entrance (KEAM) rank list has been changed following complaints that students in the Kerala syllabus are lagging behind. The cabinet meeting has decided to approve the Tamil Nadu model.
According to this, only the results of the board exams of the students who have written the entrance exams will be considered for the mark equalization. Till now, the equalization was done with the marks of 18 state boards including Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh and foreign boards including Cambridge. There was a huge gap in value between the boards that have restrictions on giving marks and Kerala, which gives marks generously. With the decrease in the value of Kerala, the students who scored high marks also went down in the entrance rank. The new process is the solution to this. This is being implemented as per the recommendations of a committee of statistics experts. The prospectus will be revised soon. The KEAM entrance rank list will be published this week after making adjustments in the software. Although the score of the exam held two months ago was published, the rank list could not be released.
Marks will be equalized to 100 each
The Entrance Commissioner will collect the highest marks given by each examination board for the subjects of Physics, Chemistry (Computer Science/Biology for those who did not study Chemistry) and Mathematics of Plus Two this time
The benchmark mark for each subject is 100. If a child who appeared for the examination under the board that gave the highest mark of 95 got 70 marks in this subject, this will be converted to 100. With this, 70 marks will become 73.68.
When the marks of all the three subjects are consolidated in this way, the benchmark mark will be 300. Through integration, the marks obtained in all three subjects will be weighted in the ratio of 5:3:2, with Mathematics being given priority.
Accordingly, Mathematics will be given a weightage of 150 marks, Physics 90 marks and Chemistry 60 marks.
The score for the rank list will be determined on the basis of 600 index marks by adding the average score of 300 in the Plus Two examination and the average score of 300 in the entrance examination.
National level marks for CBSE students
If the boards publish results in grades, students should obtain the mark sheet from the board. Otherwise, the Entrance Commissioner will take a decision based on the information available
In the case of those who have passed Plus Two from CBSE and ISC boards, the highest marks at the national level will be considered for normalization. The Commissioner will ask for the highest marks, and if not received, 100 percent marks will be considered as the highest marks.
