KOCHI: The Kerala High Court will watch the controversial film Janaki vs State of Kerala. The court has informed to watch the film on Saturday. The film will be screened before Justice N Nagaresh at Lal Media in Palarivattom at 10 am on Saturday. The court also clarified that the pleas will be considered next Tuesday after watching the film.

The high court had earlier asked the censor board whether it is interfering with the artist's freedom of expression and whose sentiments the name 'Janaki' hurts. Justice N Nagaresh had also directed to give a clear reason for demanding to change or remove the name 'Janaki' from the title and dialogue of the film.

The censor board's review committee had also directed changes to the film 'Janaki vs State of Kerala' (JSK). The court said orally that the demand was not prima facie viable. The film certification guidelines state that words and scenes that hurt religious and ethnic sentiments should be avoided. The court had pointed out that 80 percent of names in India are related to gods.

Deputy Solicitor General O M Shalina, representing the censor board, pointed out that the name Janaki is for the character, a victim of rape and this is against culture. The court responded that Janaki is not a perpetrator but a victim and is a heroine who fought and won. The release of 'JSK' starring Suresh Gopi is being delayed due to the cases. The film was supposed to be released on June 23. The censor board and the revising committee had denied permission to screen the film.
