PATHANAMTHITTA: The Child Welfare Committee has relocated the children from the private orphanage in Adoor following the POCSO case registered. 24 children were relocated. The police had registered a POCSO case after a minor girl of the orphanage delivered a baby. One of the administrators of the orphanage had married this inmate.
The complaint was raised after she gave birth to a baby. The Child Welfare Committee found that she became pregnant before turning 18. The police then registered a case and relocated the children while investigating.
The girl got married on October 23, 2024. She gave birth on June 2. The POCSO case was registered based on the committee's report. The police examined the report and then recorded the statement of the doctor at the private hospital who treated her. The case was registered based on this. No one has been arraigned in the case. The Child Welfare Committee decided to take over the children and relocate them safely after a serious complaint and case was filed against the orphanage.
The children were shifted to four institutions in the district itself. The Child Welfare Committee will ensure their education. The social justice department will later take a decision on the elderly staying in the orphanage. If the police take action, including arrests, the orphanage’s accreditation is likely to be revoked. However, it is reported that the administrator has written a letter to the Child Welfare Committee stating that she is stopping the functioning of the orphanage in view of the possibility of revocation of the accreditation.
