THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a possibility of rain in the state in the coming hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that there is a possibility of moderate rain and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph at isolated places in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod in the next three hours. There will be light rain at isolated places in other districts.

The IMD has informed that there is a possibility of strong winds with a speed of up to 40 to 50 kmph at isolated places in Kerala till tomorrow.

General precautions to face strong winds

• Strong winds are the state-specific disaster that causes the most damage and loss of life in Kerala. There is a possibility of accidents due to uprooting of trees and breaking of branches in strong winds. When there is wind and rain, under no circumstances should one stand under trees or park vehicles.
  
• Dangerous branches of trees in the yard should be felled. If you notice dangerous trees in public places, inform the relevant local bodies.
  
• Unsecured billboards, electric posts, flagpoles, etc., are also likely to fall in the wind, so strengthen or loosen them properly when there is no wind or rain. Do not stand under or near them or park vehicles when there is wind or rain.
  
• Equipment and other objects that are likely to fall in the wind, such as ladders leaning against a wall or other objects, should be tied with ropes.
  
• Windows and doors should be closed as soon as the wind starts blowing. Do not stand near windows and doors. Avoid standing on the terrace of the house.
