ALUVA: TTE Ben Thampi performed an adventurous act to restore the safety chain on the train. Ben restored the safety chain by climbing down between the bogies that were on the railway bridge across the Aluva Periyar River. The incident took place on the Eranad Express going from Ernakulam to Shoranur. A passenger who boarded from Aluva pulled the safety chain on the C-1 coach after the train left the station. When the train stopped, a part of it was on top of the bridge. The chain on this part had to be reset.
The bridge has only a track and an iron sheet in the middle where only one person can walk. The chain had to be restored by reaching the bottom of the bogie. The chain could only be restored to its original shape by adventurously walking through the iron pieces of the tracks. There was no time to waste as the Vande Bharat had to pass after the Eranad Express. With the permission of the engine driver and the guards, TTE Ben bravely stepped onto the track between the two coaches. After restoring the chain, Ben got back on the train. Then the train left. TTE P.R. Suhas, who was with Ben, captured the footage on his mobile camera.
