KOZHIKODE: Heavy rains in the state have caused extensive damages in northern Kerala. Earth caved in at Kuttiady Churam in Kozhikode. Transportation came to a standstill. A landslide occurred at Thrikkanthodu in Maruthonkara, Kozhikode. A major accident was averted as the landslide did not occur in a residential area. The water level in the Pulluva river has risen. A mudslide occurred on the Kulangad hill in Cheruvathur, Kasaragod. The part that had previously been cracked collapsed. 15 families have been relocated. Following heavy rains, there was flash floods in Thottilpalam river. Water entered on the national highway Kozhikode-Kollagal Road.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in various districts due to the possibility of very heavy rains in Kerala. Orange alert has been issued in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod today. Kannur and Kasaragod are on orange alert tomorrow. The weather department has predicted that there is a possibility of very heavy rainfall in isolated places. The meteorological department has defined very heavy rainfall as rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the following districts. Isolated heavy rain is expected. Heavy rain is defined as rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.
Extremely heavy rain will create hazards. Heavy rain is expected in a short period of time. It may cause flash floods and landslides. There is a possibility of waterlogging in urban areas and low-lying areas in general. Continuous rain may cause landslides and mudslides. The public and government agencies should be extremely vigilant.
