THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a possibility of extremely heavy rain in the state today. A red alert has been sounded in Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said extremely heavy rain of more than 204.4 mm is expected in 24 hours.
An orange alert has been declared in Idukki, Malappuram and Kozhikode today. The possibility of very heavy rain has been predicted in isolated places. The IMD said says that very heavy rain is expected to fall from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.
A yellow alert has also been issued in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki. The possibility of isolated heavy rain has been predicted. Heavy rain is defined as a rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.
The IMD has said that there is a possibility of moderate rain and strong winds of up to 40 kmph at isolated places in all districts in the next three hours.
The rain will continue in the state for two more days. A red alert has been issued for Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod tomorrow and for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod the day after tomorrow.
Fishing banned
There is a possibility of strong winds of up to 40 to 50 kmph and sometimes up to 60 kmph and bad weather along the coasts of Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep. In this situation, the IMD has said that fishing has been banned till Monday.
