THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With heavy rainfall battering the state, the Indian Meteorological Department issued a red alert to five districts in Kerala on Saturday. Red alert has been issued in Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram districts. A holiday was declared for educational institutions in Kannur, Kasaragod and Wayanad districts and Kozhikode Vadakara taluk on Saturday.
An orange alert has been issued in Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam and Idukki districts. A yellow alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Kottayam districts.
The National Oceanographic Research Centre informed a possibility of a wave height of 3.0 to 3.2 meters and sea erosion along the coasts of Thiruvananthapuram (from Kappil to Pozhiyur), Kollam (from Alappad to Edava), Alappuzha (from Chellanam to Azheekal) and Kannur-Kasaragod (from Kunjathur to Kottakunnu) districts till 05.30 pm on 20/07/2025 and along the coast of Kanyakumari (from Neerody to Arokiapuram) till 08.30 am on 20/07/2025.
