KANNUR: A new turn has emerged in the investigation into the death of Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Naveen Babu. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has submitted a supplementary chargesheet with additional evidence to the Kannur Judicial First Class Magistrate Court. The court will consider the case on the 23rd of this month.

The new chargesheet includes more concrete evidence to support the allegations presented in the initial report filed by the investigation team.

According to the latest report, a relative of Divya, the main accused, has testified that Naveen Babu tried to influence Divya before his death and even attempted to involve the relative as a mediator. When the witness stated that he was not personally acquainted with Divya, he claimed that Naveen said, “that’s fine.” The witness, Prashanth—who is a relative of P.P. Divya—also said he had seen the ADM near his quarters after the farewell function.

ADM Naveen Babu was found dead on October 15 last year at his official residence in Pallikkunnu. Investigators believe that incidents during a farewell ceremony just before his death led to the tragedy. The main allegation from the prosecution is that P.P. Divya, the District Panchayat President, publicly humiliated Naveen Babu at the event, despite not being invited. This is believed to have caused him intense mental distress.

Currently, P.P. Divya is the only accused in the case. Her lawyer, K. Vishwan, has told the media that they plan to file a petition in the High Court to quash the chargesheet filed against her. Meanwhile, Divya is using the statement of District Collector Arun K. Vijayan, who testified that Naveen Babu admitted to making a mistake. The collector also said that Naveen had conveyed this to Revenue Minister K. Rajan.
