THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a possibility of rain in Kerala for the next five days. The IMD has issued orange and yellow alerts in various districts. Idukki, Kannur and Kasaragod are on orange alert today. Orange alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam and Thrissur on July 25.


There is a possibility of very heavy rain in isolated places. The IMD says that there will be 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm of very heavy rain in 24 hours.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for these districts. Isolated heavy rain is expected. The IMD defines heavy rain as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is expected in 24 hours.


Special instructions for public
Those living in areas prone to landslides, mudslides and flash floods should move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities. Those living in riverbanks and downstream areas of dams should also move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities, anticipating the danger.


Those living in disaster-prone areas should definitely ensure that camps are opened in their area and move there during the day. For this, local bodies and revenue authorities can be contacted.


People living in unsecured houses and those living in houses with weak roofs should be especially careful as there is a possibility of strong winds. Those who foresee a dangerous situation should contact the authorities and move to safer places as a safety precaution.


Beware of the dangers that may arise due to trees uprooting in the wind and posts collapsing.
