THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that there is a possibility of heavy rain in Kerala today. Yellow alert has been sounded in eight districts--Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. The possibility of isolated heavy rain is predicted. The IMD defines heavy rain as a situation where rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is received in 24 hours.

During heavy rains, it is not allowed to cross rivers, bathe in rivers or other water bodies, go fishing or go for other purposes.
It is not allowed to climb over bridges above water bodies to see the view, take selfies or stand in groups.
In times of heavy rain, non-essential travel should be completely avoided. Recreational trips to waterfalls, water bodies and hilly areas should be completely avoided until the rain warning is lifted.
