ALAPPUZHA: A man was bitten by a viper while trying to board a train. The incident took place at platform number one of Cherthala railway station. Jayaraj (26), son of Jayakumar, resident of Uthradam House, Ward 23 of Cherthala Municipality, was bitten by a viper at around 3 am on Saturday when he was about to board the Guruvayur Express. He was immediately taken to Cherthala Taluk Hospital and then to Alappuzha Medical College Hospital.

Jayaraj is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit. He was bitten when he stepped on a viper lying on platform number one while running to board the train. Construction work is underway at the station. It is suspected that the viper may have crawled in from there. Jayaraj, who passed his B.Tech, had completed his training at ISRO. He had come to the station with two friends to attend the wedding of a friend who was with him during his training.
