KOCHI: A couple in Kochi was found electrocuted to death in a possible case of suicide. The incident took place near Perumpilly Assisi School in Njarakkal, Ernakulam. KA Sudhakaran (75) and his wife Jiji Sudhakaran (70) were found dead in the incident. Sudhakaran's leg was found tangled in an electric wire.
After not spotting the couple for the last two days, the neighbours informed the landlord and did a check in the house, which resulted in the incident coming to light. The Njarakkal police launched an investigation into the incident. Preliminary police findings pointed to the death as a suicide.
The couple was found dead in a rented house where they had been living for a month. After not spotting them for the last few days, the neighbours informed the landlord. The landlord then opened the house and inspected it with the help of a panchayat ward member, and then spotted the two dead bodies. The police and KSEB were then informed of the incident.
Sudhakaran's toe was wrapped around a wire attached to the switchboard inside the house. It is believed that Jiji held Sudhakaran and then turned on the switch with a stick. Sudhakaran's body was lying on top of Jiji. The area where the electric wire was wrapped around it was burnt.
Sudhakaran and his wife, who had previously done painting work on a contract basis, sold their house and recently moved to a rented house. They have two sons. The reason for the suicide is not clear. It is reported that the couple were troubled by illnesses and financial difficulties.
